Hibbing Taconite Tours
Learn about taconite mining and processing with a comprehensive tour to Hibbing Taconite provided by Minnesota Discovery Center, Hibbing Taconite and Shubat Transportation.
Departing from Minnesota Discovery Center, 2017 tours are offered Thursday’s available from June 15th through August 17th. You may board the bus between 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The bus departs promptly at 1:00 p.m. and will take you to see the operations of a modern mine.
From the gigantic shovels loading 3-story, 240-ton trucks to the ore being converted into taconite pellets and being loaded on the train, the tour will give you an inside perspective of mining.
Cost for the tour is $13 per person, with complimentary Minnesota Discovery Center admission. All funds go to MDC to cover overhead and support our private non-profit mission.
To collect, preserve, interpret, educate and promote Iron Range history and cultural heritage. To serve, manage, promote, sustain and develop the MDC assets for the long-term benefit of regional Iron Range residents and visitors.
Provide sustaiable and responsible stewardship of community assets. Serve and cultivate learning experiences for people of all ages on the story of the Iron Range.
Please, no photographs are allowed while on Hibbing Taconite property. Tours are for ages 10 and up. The tour is approximately 2 hours long. We thank Hibbing Taconite for providing access to their mine operation and for their generous donation to provide tour guides and transportation.
