One-of-a-kind Tour

Get an up-close look at a working taconite mine in this unique bus tour available only through Minnesota Discovery Center. Hibbing Taconite, one of northeastern Minnesota's seven active taconite plants, has an annual rated capacity of eight million tons. This fascinating 1.25-hour tour takes you onto the property of the 689-employee mine, where you'll see mining equipment and processes.

Mine Tours will be offered Thursdays at 1 p.m. June 23 through August 18. Cost is $5 per person, payable at the Minnesota Discovery Center admission lobby. For safety reasons, this tour is only available to ages 10 and up. Tour cost does NOT include admission to Minnesota Discovery Center. 

This tour will take up to 55 people at one time. To ensure that you are able to be part of this exciting tour, we strongly recommend calling for advance reservations: 800-372-6437 or 218-254-7959.

Safety gear is required and will be provided. No photographs are allowed on this tour. The time of departure from Minnesota Discovery Center to the time of return in our parking lot may be up to 2 hours. The bus will make no stops during the tour.  Please plan accordingly.
